The Colombo Magistrate’s Court has ordered that a complaint filed against former Minister Prasanna Ranatunga over an alleged corruption offence be taken up again on January 26, 2027.

The case was called before Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama today (20), with Ranatunga, who is currently out on bail, appearing before the court, Ada Derana reporter said.

The Magistrate directed the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) to submit an update on the progress of its investigations when the case is next taken up.

The complaint relates to an alleged financial loss caused to the government in connection with the provision of insurance coverage to employees of four institutions, including the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority, during Ranatunga’s tenure as Minister of Tourism.

Ranatunga was arrested by the Bribery Commission over the allegations and subsequently produced before the court.

The matter will be taken up again on January 26, 2027, when the progress of the investigations is expected to be reported to the court.
