Sarvajana Balaya is the most suitable political group capable of defeating the current government, its leader, Member of Parliament Dilith Jayaweera said today (20).

MP Jayaweera made the remarks while addressing a ceremony in Colombo to present appointment letters to organisers appointed for the Mirigama, Dompe and Negombo electorates in the Gampaha District.

MP Jayaweera said the general public was now correcting what he described as mistakes made in their earlier political decisions.

Referring to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s repeated assertion that established political groups could not defeat the ruling party, MP Jayaweera said a new political movement was needed to challenge the government.

He argued that the new political force should be better than the existing political groups and claimed that Sarvajana Balaya had brought together individuals who had progressed through their own efforts and self-confidence.

The MP also questioned whether the group’s members had entered politics to engage in corruption, theft or the abuse of power, insisting that these were not their objectives.

He said many members already held positions of influence in civil society and were prepared to make further sacrifices for the country.

Sarvajana Balaya leader Jayaweera further alleged that the group was facing significant political pressure, claiming that measures targeting him personally had also been initiated.

Despite these challenges, he said the public was rapidly correcting its previous political choices.
