Police have recovered a motorcycle stolen by gunmen who fled after shooting dead a restaurant owner in Soysapura, Moratuwa last evening (20).
The shooting occurred at around 8.30 p.m. yesterday inside a restaurant in Soysapura, killing the owner. A female customer who sustained gunshot injuries in the incident was also admitted to hospital.
According to police, two unidentified individuals arrived at the restaurant in a car, opened fire on the owner using a T-56 assault rifle, and fled the scene.
However, after the vehicle developed a mechanical fault in the Suwarapola area of Piliyandala, the suspects abandoned it, fired shots into the air to intimidate a motorcyclist, and stole his motorcycle before escaping.
The stolen motorcycle was subsequently found abandoned in Siddhamulla, Piliyandala and recovered by police.
Police further stated that the number plate of the car used by the suspects was also found at the scene of the shooting.
