A Satyagraha launched by a group of Buddhist monks at the Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, demanding the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, will continue for the sixth consecutive day today (21).

The protest commenced on October 16, when the monks arrived at the Viharamahadevi Park. Tensions arose between the monks and police on the same day when an attempt was made to construct a temporary structure at the protest site.

The monks participating in the Satyagraha have stated that they will not leave the location until Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is released.

On October 16, the group of monks initially gathered outside the Presidential Secretariat before proceeding to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, where they held discussions with the Ministry’s Secretary.

However, describing the discussions as unsuccessful, the monks subsequently announced that they would remain at the Viharamahadevi Park until a solution was provided to their demands.
