The Joint Development Officers' Centre has announced that development officers will launch an island-wide strike on November 9 over several unresolved demands.
General Secretary Dhammika Munasinghe said that although the authorities had been informed of their grievances on several occasions, no satisfactory solutions had been provided so far.
He stated that the current government came to power pledging to resolve the issues faced by development officers, but many longstanding problems remain unresolved.
“Development officers do not have a clearly defined list of duties or an established promotion scheme. There is a 10-year waiting period for promotions between grades, and there is no higher grade. Their training period lasts one year, but they have not been absorbed into the permanent service. There is also a significant salary disparity. None of these issues has been addressed,” he said.
The Joint Development Officers' Centre said the proposed island-wide strike is intended to draw attention to these unresolved issues and press the authorities to provide solutions.
