Approximately 6.97 acres of land in Keppapilavu, in the Mullaitivu District, previously used by the security forces, have been officially released for public use, the Ministry of Defence announced.

The land was formally handed over by officers of the Sri Lanka Army’s 59th Division to the Divisional Secretary of Maritimepattu.

The handover took place in the presence of Mullaitivu District Secretary and Government Agent A. Umamaheswaran.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the release is part of the government’s policy of progressively returning lands used by the security forces to their rightful owners and making them available for public use, except for areas required for essential national security purposes.

District Secretary Umamaheswaran expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Defence, the Sri Lanka Army, the Commander of the 59th Division, security authorities and relevant government officials for their cooperation in facilitating the release of the land, the Ministry of Defence added.
