The Satyagraha launched by a group of Buddhist monks at Viharamahadevi Park in Colombo, demanding the release of Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, is set to continue for the seventh consecutive day today (October 22).

The protest began on October 16, when the monks gathered at the park. Tensions arose between the protesters and police on the same day over an attempt to erect a temporary structure at the protest site.

The monks participating in the Satyagraha have declared that they will remain at the location until Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero is released.

On October 16, the group initially gathered outside the Presidential Secretariat before proceeding to the Ministry of Buddhasasana, where they held discussions with the Ministry’s Secretary.

However, describing the discussions as unsuccessful, the monks subsequently moved to Viharamahadevi Park and announced that they would continue their protest until their demands were addressed.
