A section of the Kandy-Jaffna A9 Road, specifically at the '7th Mile Post' (7 Kanuwa) area in Kurugoda, within the Alawathugoda Police Division—is scheduled to be temporarily closed from 10.00 p.m. tonight (22) until 2.00 a.m. tomorrow (23).

Sri Lanka Police stated that this closure is to facilitate the recovery and removal of the trailer of a prime mover vehicle involved in a fatal accident that occurred in the area on October 19.

Police advise motorists to use alternative routes during this period.

Accordingly, vehicles travelling from Kandy towards Matale may reach the A9 Road by passing through Katugastota, Madawala, Wattegama, Ukuwela, and Alwala.

Heavy vehicles travelling from Matale towards Kandy must proceed via Alwala, Ukuwela, Wattegama, Madawala, and Katugastota.

Additionally, the police note that light vehicles may travel towards Kandy by passing through Alawathugoda, Owissa, Pujapitiya, and Ambathenna to reach Katugastota.

The police request drivers and the public to use alternative routes in order to minimise potential traffic congestion during the relevant period.
