The Department of Meteorology has issued a ‘Red’ warning for strong winds and rough seas for multi-day vessels in the Bay of Bengal deep-sea areas.
It warned that the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal in the vicinity of the North Andaman Islands is very likely to intensify into a depression by today (24).
The system is expected to move west-northwestward and intensify further into a deep depression by 25 October (Sunday) and into a cyclonic storm over the west-central Bay of Bengal by the morning of 26 October (Monday).
Therefore, naval and fishing communities are warned not to venture into the deep-sea areas bounded by 10N-20N and 85E-95E until further notice, the department said.
Further, naval and fishing communities operating in those sea areas are advised to move to safe areas.
Based on today’s (24) data, there is a high probability of cyclogenesis (formation of a depression) during the next 24 hours, it said.
Naval and fishing communities engaging in activities over this sea area are advised to be vigilant and be attentive to the future forecasts and bulletins issued by the Department of Meteorology in this regard.
