One soldier killed, several injured after army vehicle crashes into tree
A soldier has reportedly died, with eleven others injured following an accident involving an Army vehicle in the Keeliyankudiyiruppu area, along the Mannar–Talaimannar main road, this evening (24).
Eleven persons who sustained serious injuries in the crash were initially admitted to the Pesalai Hospital and subsequently transferred to the Mannar District Hospital for further treatment.
The accident reportedly occurred when a 'Defender' vehicle belonging to the Sri Lanka Army, travelling from Talaimannar towards Mannar, lost control and veered off the road before colliding with a Palmyra tree by the roadside.
Further reports indicate that the vehicle sustained extensive damage in the incident.
