The Department of Motor Traffic has announced that the proposed introduction of the Roadworthiness and Safety Certificate is still under review, with no final decisions yet made on its implementation date or the categories of vehicles that will be required to obtain it.
In a clarification issued to the general public, the Department said the Roadworthiness Strategic Committee was continuing discussions and analytical studies to determine the appropriate arrangements for implementing the proposed certification programme.
The requirement is primarily intended for vehicles used to transport passengers and goods.
The Department said several key aspects of the programme remain under consideration, including the effective date, applicable vehicle categories, mileage requirements and other relevant criteria. The procedures for obtaining the certificate and the necessary legal and administrative arrangements are also being assessed.
Appropriate decisions will be made following a comprehensive evaluation of these matters, the Department said.
Meanwhile, the Department has urged social media activists and content creators to refrain from circulating unverified information regarding the commencement date and conditions of the proposed certification requirement until official decisions are announced.
It warned that the spread of inaccurate information could create unnecessary public concern, misunderstandings and inconvenience.
The public has therefore been requested to rely on official announcements issued by the Department of Motor Traffic for accurate and updated information regarding the proposed Roadworthiness and Safety Certificate.
