The Irrigation Department states that eight spill gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by one foot each.
Consequently, the volume of water being released from the reservoir into the Deduru Oya is around 5,300 cubic feet per second, it said.
The department noted that the catchment area of the Deduru Oya Reservoir experienced rainfall throughout the day today (25), and that the water level in the reservoir is currently rising gradually.
The Irrigation Department further urges residents living downstream of the Deduru Oya Reservoir to remain vigilant following the opening of the spill gates.
