Police have opened fire at a three-wheeler in the Nagoda area of Kalutara after its driver allegedly failed to comply with police orders.
A team of officers from the Kalutara Crime Division had instructed the driver of a suspicious three-wheeler to stop in the Bombuwala area of Kalutara.
However, the driver had continued driving without complying with the orders, prompting police to pursue the vehicle for nearly four kilometers before opening fire in the Nagoda area.
The driver had sustained gunshot injuries and was admitted to the Nagoda Teaching Hospital, police said.
The injured man has been identified as an individual known as ‘Rajawatta Sanju,’ a resident of the Rajawatta area in Kalutara.
Police subsequently had searched the three-wheeler and reportedly had recovered narcotics from the vehicle.
