Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has congratulated Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva on his victory in Brazil’s presidential election, describing the result as a defeat for corruption, political division and misinformation.
In a post on X, formerly Twitter, President Dissanayake said Lula’s historic victory demonstrated that the people could not be misled by political dynasties or those who believed that might was greater than right.
“Today, the people of Brazil did not just win an election; they defeated the forces of corruption, division and political lies,” President Dissanayake stated.
“Comrade Lula’s historic victory in Brazil shows that the people cannot be fooled by bankrupt political dynasties and the ghosts of the past who believe might is greater than right.”
Extending his congratulations to Lula, he added, “Many congratulations, companheiro, for leading the march of progress yet again!”
According to Brazil’s electoral authority, leftist President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva defeated right-wing Senator Flávio Bolsonaro in a presidential runoff on Sunday, securing a fourth non-consecutive term in office.
