Provincial education officials empowered to decide on school closures amid adverse weather

Provincial Directors and Provincial Secretaries of Education have been empowered to make decisions regarding the opening or closure of schools in their respective areas in response to the prevailing adverse weather conditions, the Ministry of Education said.

The Ministry of Education has reportedly issued the relevant instructions to provincial education authorities.

Accordingly, Central Province Governor Dr. Harsha Suranga Fernando said that school operations of 26 schools in several educational zones across the Kandy and Nuwara Eliya districts had been suspended.
