The Central Criminal Investigation Bureau (CCIB) has launched a comprehensive investigation, on the special orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), into a video circulating on social media that allegedly contains false information and seeks to discredit the Dematagoda Police Station.
According to a statement issued by the Police Media Division, the video was circulated with claims that a young man had been summoned to the Dematagoda Police Station and questioned on or around October 22 over allegations that he had written a “Vas Kavi”, a traditional form of verse believed to invoke misfortune or curses.
Police have stated that the claims made in the video are false.
As part of the ongoing investigation, the CCIB summoned Attorney-at-Law Sudath Wickramaratne, who had publicised the video, to its office today (26) and recorded a statement from him.
The Police Media Division further stated that the CCIB is continuing its investigations into the incident.
