The permit of the bus involved in a collision with a train at a railway crossing in Koggala, Habaraduwa yesterday has been temporarily suspended, while investigations are underway into irregularities involving the vehicle.
The Western Province Road Passenger Transport Authority suspended the permit after finding that the bus had been used for an educational trip without obtaining the required special tour permit.
It was also revealed that the person driving the bus at the time of the accident was not the driver registered for the vehicle. The authority said investigations were being conducted into the matter.
The accident occurred last afternoon when the bus collided with a train travelling from Beliatta to Maradana at a railway crossing in Koggala.
The bus was carrying students from a tuition class in Kottawa who were on an educational excursion. Thirteen students sustained injuries in the accident and were admitted to hospital.
