Roshan Ranasinghe calls for Presidential pardon for Gnanasara Thero
Chairman of the Sarvajana Balaya, Roshan Ranasinghe has called on President Anura Kumara Dissanayake to grant a presidential pardon to Venerable Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, who is currently serving a prison sentence.
Speaking during the ‘Ada Derana 360’ programme yesterday (26), he said he is making the request to the President both in his capacity as the chairman of the Sarvajana Balaya party and in his personal capacity.
Ranasinghe also referred to the decision by former President Maithripala Sirisena to grant a pardon, stating that it had been made in response to a request from the Mahanayake Theros and in accordance with the public mandate.
Accordingly, he urged the President to grant a pardon to Gnanasara Thero.
