HANGZHOU, China – The Fourth Liangzhu Forum, an international gathering focused on cultural heritage and dialogue among civilizations, was held in Hangzhou, China, from October 18 to 20, bringing together participants from different countries to discuss the preservation of cultural heritage and the promotion of international cooperation.

This year’s forum was held under the theme “Preserving Cultural Heritage for the Present by Connecting the Past and the Future.”

Launched in 2023, the Liangzhu Forum has emerged as an international platform for promoting mutual understanding and cooperation among civilizations worldwide.

The forum focused on several key areas, including the study of ancient civilizations, the preservation of archaeological heritage, the application of new technologies in heritage conservation, and the development of sustainable tourism based on cultural heritage.

A special delegation from Sri Lanka also participated in the international gathering. The delegation included journalists, educationists, government officials and a Member of Parliament. The participation of the Sri Lankan delegation was coordinated by the China Cultural Centre in Sri Lanka.

Addressing the forum, Harsha Wijeywardene, Secretary of the Western Provincial Council of Sri Lanka, highlighted the similarities between ancient Chinese civilizations and Sri Lanka’s rich historical heritage.

He emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation between China and Sri Lanka through cultural heritage, noting that protecting the legacy inherited from previous generations and passing it on to future generations is a shared responsibility.

Strengthening International Cooperation Through Cultural Heritage

The forum highlighted the importance of protecting cultural heritage through international cooperation, recognizing that the preservation of historical and archaeological treasures is a shared responsibility that extends beyond national borders.

The discussions also underscored the value of cultural heritage as a bridge between nations, creating opportunities to strengthen mutual understanding, share knowledge and promote sustainable development.

With its focus on preserving the legacy of ancient civilizations and fostering stronger cultural ties among countries, the Liangzhu Forum continues to serve as an important international platform for connecting the past with the future.
