Litro Gas has increased its daily distribution to between 90,000 and 100,000 cylinders to address the ongoing gas shortage in Sri Lanka, Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said.
Speaking at the weekly Cabinet media briefing today, Minister Jayatissa said Litro Gas normally releases approximately 74,000 cylinders per day. However, the company has increased supplies by around 25 per cent to meet rising demand amid supply issues affecting Laugfs Gas.
He said the shortage of Laugfs Gas had affected the market since September, resulting in an increase in daily demand for Litro Gas from approximately 1,100 metric tonnes to 1,600 metric tonnes.
A shipment carrying 3,000 metric tonnes of Litro Gas has arrived in Sri Lanka, and unloading operations are currently underway, the Minister said.
He added that another vessel carrying 3,900 metric tonnes of gas is expected to arrive by October 31.
The increased distribution is intended to help meet market demand and ease the pressure caused by the supply disruptions affecting Laugfs Gas, Minister Jayatissa said.
