The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is questioning Anusha Lakmali, alias Achini, who was arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport earlier today (27) following her deportation from Dubai in connection with the murder of Aruna Vidanagamage, alias ‘Kajja’, and his two children.

Kajja and his two children were shot dead on February 18 last year. An individual known as Backhoe Saman has been accused in connection with the killings and is currently being held at the high-security prison in Welisara.

Investigations into the murders reportedly revealed that the 34-year-old woman had made the last telephone calls to Kajja before his death, according to an analysis of his phone records.

The CID subsequently sought an Interpol Red Notice after discovering that she had left the country.

She was arrested by UAE police on August 30 while attempting to travel from Sharjah to Sri Lanka and was later deported to the country.

During preliminary questioning, the woman reportedly told investigators that she had met Kajja on the morning of the day he was killed and had maintained a close relationship with him.

She is also alleged to have told investigators that, acting on the instructions of Backhoe Saman, she telephoned Kajja and summoned him to a location near a hotel in the area where the shooting took place.

According to reports, she further disclosed that she fled Sri Lanka in March 2025, travelling first to Bangkok, Thailand, before proceeding to Malaysia and later Dubai.

Following her arrest at the airport, she was taken to CID headquarters in Colombo for further questioning as investigations into the triple murder continue.
