The Irrigation Department has extended the flood warning issued for the Gin Ganga Basin by a further 24 hours, warning of possible minor flooding in low-lying areas due to significant rainfall across the river’s catchment areas.
According to the Irrigation Department, heavy rainfall has been recorded across the Gin Ganga Basin, while analysis of water levels at river gauging stations indicates a risk of minor flooding within the next 24 hours.
The warning will be in effect for residents of the Thawalama, Nagoda, Baddegama and Welivitiya-Divithura Divisional Secretariat divisions.
The Department also urged residents in the affected areas to exercise extreme caution and remain vigilant as the situation develops.
Motorists travelling through the areas, particularly along minor roads, have also been advised to exercise heightened caution due to the potential flood risk.
Meanwhile, disaster management authorities have been requested to take the necessary precautionary measures in response to the prevailing situation.
