Sri Lanka and Thailand have focused on further strengthening bilateral cooperation to promote development in the health, education, technology and economic sectors.
This was discussed during a special bilateral meeting between Minister of Health and Mass Media Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa and Thailand’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Yodchanan Wongsawat.
The meeting was held yesterday (28) on the sidelines of the Fifth Asia-Pacific Ministerial Conference at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok, Thailand.
Discussions focused on the use of modern technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), to improve the efficiency of Sri Lanka’s healthcare services, as well as the exchange of technical expertise in this field.
The two sides also discussed expanding student, academic staff and research exchange programmes between universities and higher education institutions in the two countries.
The possibility of obtaining modern technological assistance for agriculture, irrigation and scientific water management was also discussed.
Meanwhile, the two delegations exchanged views on encouraging Thai investors to explore investment opportunities in Sri Lanka and jointly implementing tourism promotion programmes.
The importance of further strengthening religious, social and cultural ties based on the Theravada Buddhist heritage shared by the two countries for centuries was also highlighted.
