Leader of the House and Minister Bimal Rathnayake has stated that the no-confidence motion submitted by the Opposition against the Speaker will not be taken up for debate in Parliament on November 3.

The Minister said the motion could not be scheduled for debate on that date as it had not been amended in accordance with the Standing Orders of Parliament and resubmitted before October 28.

Accordingly, November 3 has been allocated for an adjournment debate in Parliament.

The Minister further stated that the Parliamentary Business Committee had been informed that the no-confidence motion could be taken up for debate before the Budget period if it was submitted in accordance with the Standing Orders.
