Sri Lanka is scheduled to enter into a new Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with South Korea to implement vocational training and student exchange programmes.
The Ministry of Labour stated that the agreements are scheduled to be signed in South Korea tomorrow (02).
Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe left for South Korea on October 30 to sign the new agreements between the Ministry of Labour, the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, Gyeongsangnam-do Province of the Republic of Korea, the Sacheon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Changshin University.
In addition to the Deputy Minister, a delegation including Secretary to the Ministry of Labour S.M. Piyathissa and Director General of the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Duminda Jayalath are also participating in the visit.
With the signing of these new agreements, Sri Lankan students selected by the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health, operating under the Ministry of Labour, will have the opportunity to pursue higher education at Changshin University in the Republic of Korea.
Furthermore, the programme is expected to provide these students with employment opportunities at industrial establishments in Gyeongsangnam-do Province upon completion of their studies, as well as opportunities for long-term residence in the province.
The Cabinet of Minister has already granted approval for the relevant agreements relating to these vocational training and student exchange programmes.
