The National Joint Three-Wheeler Drivers and Industrial Workers' Association (NJTWDIWA) has announced plans to increase three-wheeler fares in response to the recent fuel price hike, its General Secretary, L. Rohana Perera, said.
He stated that the fare for the first kilometer should be increased from Rs. 110 to Rs. 120.
Meanwhile, commenting further, the General Secretary of the National Association of Three-Wheeler Drivers and Industrialists, L. Rohana Perera, said:
"Fares were increased last month as well, and we made a request, but received no response. Now, prices have gone up again this month. Fuel prices have increased by Rs. 25, and the prices of all the other essentials we consume have also risen accordingly.
"At present, even finding gas has become difficult. We are being pushed into an increasingly difficult situation, and consumers need to understand this.
"We are currently charging Rs. 110 for the first kilometer. Our proposal is to revise this to Rs. 120, while the fare for the second kilometer onwards, which is currently Rs. 90, should be increased to Rs. 100.
"We intend to submit this proposal to the National Transport Commission and see what response we receive over the next few days.
"If we do not receive a favourable response, we will have no choice but to discuss the matter with the institutions responsible for adjusting fare meters and proceed with revising them. Otherwise, we will be left in an extremely helpless situation."
