The All-Island School Children Transportation Association has announced that school transport fares will not be revised at this stage despite the recent increase in diesel prices.
Association President Malshree de Silva said that although the rise in fuel prices has made it difficult to maintain school transport services, the association does not intend to place an additional financial burden on parents.
He further stated that if diesel prices could be reduced, the benefit would be passed on to parents of schoolchildren.
“We have no intention of increasing school transport fares despite the diesel price hike. If possible, we request that diesel prices be reduced by any amount. If that happens, we will be able to pass that relief on to parents,” de Silva added.
