The Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development has stated that the liquidation process for 33 selected State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs) is currently underway.
The Ministry noted that, in accordance with Cabinet approval, a specialised unit for State-Owned Enterprise Reform was established under the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development in March this year.
Accordingly, the unit is currently overseeing the liquidation proceedings of the 33 selected state-owned enterprises.
Meanwhile, in line with the 2026 Budget proposals, the Treasury is taking measures to settle long-standing outstanding liabilities relating to Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) contributions, Employees' Trust Fund (ETF) contributions and gratuity payments of selected state-owned enterprises.
The Ministry further stated that, out of the Rs. 5 billion allocated for settling these outstanding liabilities, Rs. 2.8 billion had been fully disbursed by the end of August 2026.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Finance pointed out that the state-owned enterprise sector faced several challenges during the second quarter of this year due to ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
These challenges included rising raw material costs, supply chain disruptions and order cancellations.
However, despite these difficulties, the Ministry revealed that 51 major state-owned enterprises reported a combined profit of Rs. 259.3 billion during the first six months of 2026.
The combined profit reported by these enterprises during the corresponding period in 2025 stood at Rs. 227.8 billion.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Finance stated that the overall profit of the 51 major state-owned enterprises had increased by Rs. 31.5 billion during the first six months of 2026 compared to the corresponding period last year.
