The mother of the 16-year-old boy who was injured in a police shooting in Kadawatha has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka, seeking justice for her son.
She said the complaint was filed in response to what she described as an injustice against her child. She also expressed her intention to lodge a further complaint at Police Headquarters regarding the incident.
Speaking about her son's condition, the mother revealed that although he had undergone surgery following the shooting, bullet fragments remain inside his body. She raised concerns about the possible long-term impact of these injuries on his health and future.
She questioned the circumstances under which the police officer had used the firearm, arguing that a weapon such as a T-56 rifle should only be handled by properly trained and experienced personnel.
The mother further alleged that the shooting appeared to have been carried out in a manner that could have resulted in her son's death.
She said her son is actively involved in sports, including athletics and volleyball, and expressed fears that his injuries could prevent him from continuing these activities.
"My main concern is my son's future. I want justice for him, and I want all the consequences of this incident to be properly considered," she said.
The mother has called for a fair investigation into the shooting and appropriate action to ensure justice for her son.
