The Inspector General of Police (IGP) has ordered the dismissal of the Officer-in-Charge of the Crime Division of the Akuressa Police Station following a disciplinary inquiry into multiple allegations of misconduct.
The dismissal follows the officer's admission of guilt to all charges contained in the charge sheet issued against him. The allegations included maintaining associations with several women suspected of involvement in drug trafficking.
Consequently, the Sub-Inspector has been dismissed from service with immediate effect.
The officer had also been accused of arresting a group of individuals attending a Sinhala and Tamil New Year celebration in Akuressa last April and allegedly misappropriating Rs. 500,000 in cash from their possession.
The dismissal was effected following the conclusion of the disciplinary proceedings.
