Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has highlighted Sri Lanka’s commitment to universal healthcare and presented investment opportunities in climate-resilient agriculture and green port development at two high-level Commonwealth gatherings held in Antigua and Barbuda.
The Prime Minister participated in the ‘The Value of Vision – Global Summit for Eye Health and Exhibition’ and the Commonwealth Leaders and CEOs’ Summit during her official visit to attend the 2026 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM).
Addressing the high-level segment of the Global Summit for Eye Health, Prime Minister Amarasuriya outlined Sri Lanka’s longstanding commitment to universal healthcare, emphasising that eye health remains an integral component of the country’s free public healthcare system.
She also highlighted initiatives aimed at improving access to eye care among children and young people, including school-based vision screening programmes and the President’s Fund initiative to provide spectacles to university students in need.
At the Commonwealth Leaders and CEOs’ Summit, the Prime Minister presented two investment-ready projects in Sri Lanka, supported by the Commonwealth Climate Finance Access Hub, and invited Commonwealth business leaders and prospective investors to explore investment opportunities in their implementation.
The projects include the Climate Resilient Agro-Ecosystems (CRAES) Project and the GreenPort Cornerstone: Green Hydrogen-Powered Zero-Emission Port Logistics Project.
The Prime Minister called on business leaders and potential investors to consider these initiatives, which focus on climate-resilient agricultural development and the transition towards environmentally sustainable port operations.
The Commonwealth Leaders and CEOs’ Summit provided a platform for strengthening partnerships between governments and the private sector, while facilitating investment opportunities and promoting economic cooperation across Commonwealth member countries.
