A suspect has been arrested with over six kilograms of narcotics illegally in his possession during a special joint search operation conducted in Kalmunaikudy, Ampara.
The operation was carried out yesterday (03) through a joint effort by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Kalmunai Office of the Department of Excise.
The raid was conducted following credible information received by a Sri Lanka Navy office under the South Eastern Naval Command.
During the operation, a suspicious individual was stopped and searched in the Kalmunaikudy area, where officers discovered a stock of narcotics weighing over six kilograms, prepared in 94 small packets for illegal distribution.
The arrested suspect is a 61-year-old resident of Kalmunaikudy.
The suspect and the seized stock of narcotics have been handed over to the Kalmunai Office of the Department of Excise for further legal proceedings.
