Liquor shops closed tomorrow in several areas due to Deepavali

The Excise Department has taken steps to close liquor outlets in several areas of the island tomorrow (08) in observance of the Deepavali festival.

Accordingly, the department has ordered the closure of liquor outlets in the Northern Province and the Nuwara Eliya District.

Additionally, liquor outlets located in the Badulla District—excluding those in the Mahiyanganaya and Ridimaliyadda Divisional Secretariat Divisions—will also be closed tomorrow.

The department has further stated that strict legal action will be taken against any liquor outlet in the aforementioned areas that continues to sell alcohol tomorrow or violates the conditions of its license.

Furthermore, the Excise Department has requested the public to report any instances where these directives are violated by calling the emergency hotline at 1913.
