Court orders release of 32 Indian fishermen

The Trincomalee Magistrate today ordered the release of 32 Indian fishermen and their 4 boats arrested on seas off Pulmodai on October 17, 2013.
The Indian External Affairs Ministry earlier today announced that India and Sri Lanka had begun the process of releasing fishermen trapped in Lankan jails.
MEA spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin tweeted to say that 20 fishermen had been released today.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has ordered the release of 179 Sri Lankan fishermen lodged in Tamil Nadu jails, mostly arrested for trespassing into Indian waters.
Fisheries Minister Rajitha Senaratne, due to visit New Delhi for the proposed talks on Tuesday, said there would be no release of Indian fishermen before the meeting.
According to Fisheries Ministry, some 288 Indians are in Sri Lankan custody for allegedly poaching in Lankan waters while 212 Sri Lankans are held by India.
