
Following raids carried out in the Polgahawela area today, Police Special Task Force (STF) personnel seized a total of 40,000 kilograms of refuse tea prepared to be exported and arrested 23 persons involved in the illegal operation.
The operation was carried out this morning according to information received by the STF intelligence unit.
STF personnel initially discovered a container with 14,000 kilograms of refuse tea and a lorry with 6,000 kilograms in it.
Later 20,000 kilograms of refuse tea were found inside a warehouse in the Bandawa area.
The arrested suspects are being further interrogated, Inspector Nadeeka Silva of the STF said.
