A currency-forging racket has been uncovered in the Dalupatha area of Negombo by the Negombo police following the arrest of one man who possessed a forged Rs.5000 note.
The Negombo police questioned the arrested suspect who provided information about the racket and a house in the Dalupatha area. Following a police raid, 288 forged Rs.5000 bills were found at the house.
Police also seized three computers, a printer and the paper used to forge the notes as well as two Rs.1000 notes and a Rs.5000 note which had only one side printed.
Meanwhile, another suspect was also arrested at the house.
The two suspects in custody, aged 23 and 21, will be presented to the Negombo Magistrate court today (January 20) while the Negombo police are continuing their investigation into the racket.
