Man caught with gold worth Rs.9m in rectum

A Sri Lankan man was arrested by customs officers at the Katunayake International Airport today when he attempted to smuggle 18 gold biscuits into the country by concealing them in his rectal cavity.
The 29-year-old suspect was arrested at around 3.00pm after he arrived in flight EK 654 from Dubai, customs media spokesman Leslie Gamini said.
He stated that the gold biscuits, weighing 1.8 kilograms in total, are estimated to be worth around Rs 9 million in the Sri Lankan market.
The detection was made by a team of officers led by Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nishantha Jayasinghe.
Further investigations are being carried out by airport customs.
