Businessman shot dead during armed robbery in Dankotuwa

A businessman was gunned down by armed robbers who broke into a residence near the Singakkuliya Temple in Dankotuwa this evening.
The four suspects had reportedly arrived in a car and forcefully entered the house before threatening its occupants with firearms.
The residents were forced into a room and locked inside by the men, who proceeded to rob all the gold jewelry and cash inside the home, Ada Derana reporter said.
However, just as the robbers attempted to escape the scene a family friend had arrived in a Pajero at the residence, causing the armed men to panic and open fire at him.
The victim, a businessman from Kimbulgala, was killed in the shooting while his body has been placed at the Dankotuwa Hospital.
Police are conducting further investigations.
