Woman arrested at airport with Rs.5 million worth of foreign currency

A woman was arrested at the airport while allegedly attempting to smuggle foreign currency into the country, police stated.

 

Customs Department Media Spokesman, Leslie Gamini stated that the suspect was in possession of 16,440 Euros and US $16,000 which amounts to Rs.5,090,666.

 

The suspect came to Sri Lanka on board flight UL 124 from Chennai, India while Customs stated that the female suspect was a 35 year old resident of Colombo.

 

Customs officials also uncovered that she had visited India four times within a period of two weeks.
