The National Freedom Front (NFF) is pleased with the government’s decision to refuse a US representative entry into Sri Lanka this week, NFF Media Spokesman Mohammed Muzammil stated.

US ambassador at large for women’s issues Catherine Russell was due to visit Sri Lanka ahead of a UN Human Rights Council meeting next month at which Colombo is due to face fresh censure.

A US embassy spokesman said it was “regrettable” Colombo had refused to grant Russell a visa for the planned visit this month.

Speaking at a press conference held today (February 6) he said that there were several NGOs that are enemies of this country highlighting a recent report by the Public Interest Advocacy Centre which stated that the Sri Lankan military were responsible for the vast majority of the alleged war crimes that occurred during the final months of the war.

Muzammil claimed that no war crimes had occurred in Sri Lanka.

He charged that these forces were pressurising Sri Lanka’s international friends as well while claiming that Former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka had said that those bearing white flags had been shot at.
