Student arrested after assaulting school principal

A Grade 11 student of a school in Welikanda, Sevanapitiya has been arrested for allegedly assaulting the principal of his school today, police said.
Police had received a complaint stating that the victim had warned the student who had been making a commotion on top of a desk in a class room and that the student had then attacked him with a stick in anger.
The student is currently in custody while the principal, N.G. Rathnaweera, has been admitted to the Welikanda Hospital.
However, the head master is to be transferred to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital as he has suffered severe damage to the neck and lower back area, Ada Derana reporter said.
