Matara bus strike over Southern Expressway

Bus drivers operating on several routes including Matara to Colombo, Galle, Kataragama and Hambantota have decided to launch a strike from midnight today (13), demanding that private buses be allowed to ply the Southern Expressway from Matara.

The opening of the Galle - Matara section of the Southern Expressway is scheduled to take place on March 15.

Chairman of the Matara Passenger Transport Company, A. K. H. Halpage stated that private bus owners had sought permission from the National Transport Commission (NTC) to operate on the expressway from Matara.

However, he added, that approval has not been granted yet and therefore they have decided to resort to strike action.
