Man arrested with fake Rs 5,000 notes

A suspect has been arrested for the possession of five counterfeit currency notes of the Rs 5,000 denomination in the Thulhiriya area in Warakapola today.

Warakapola Police said the man was arrested near a shop in Thulhiriya when he had attempted to change a Rs 5,000 note.

All fake notes had possessed the same serial number (R21 - 437863) and the same date of issuance, police said.

The arrested suspect, a resident of Thulhiriya in Kurunegala, is to be produced at the Thulhiya Magistrate’s Court today.
