Man sentenced to 7 years RI over rape of deaf woman

A factory owner in Kiribathgoda has been sentenced to 7 years rigorous imprisonment by the Colombo High Court after he was found guilty of raping a 34-year-old hearing-impaired woman nearly 10 years ago.
The defendant, Nisshanka Jayathilaka, was also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 and ordered to pay the victim a compensation of Rs 100,000 by Colombo High Court Judge Kumudini Wickramasinghe.
If the defendant fails to pay the fine he will serve a further 3 month sentence while if he fails to pay the compensation he will serve a further 6 month sentence.
Jayathilaka was found guilty of raping the woman, an employee of his factory in Kongahawatta, in 2004.
