LTTE operative Selvanayagam Kajeepan alias Gopi who was killed recently by Sri Lankan troops, was part of a plot to assassinate a high-profile political leader in Colombo, according to Prof. Rohan Gunaratna, Head of the Centre for Political Violence and Terrorism Research at Nanyang University in Singapore.
Gopi was gunned down with fellow cadre Sundaralingam Kajeepan alias Theivihan and Navaratnam Navaneethan alias Appan in a confrontation with the forces at Padaviya in Northeast Sri Lanka.
“The disruption of the cell is very timely,” Gunaratna told the Express News Service. Theivihan, he said, was an intelligence operative as well as a Black Tiger pilot of LTTE air force.
“On the instruction of Tiger chieftain, Velupillai Prabhakaran, Theivihan escaped to TN before the end of (Eelam War IV) with a brief to liaise with pro-Eelam Tamil leaders there. Theivihan’s links in TN should be of concern to India,” Prof. Gunaratna warned.
