The Q branch of the Tamil Nadu police has been granted three days custody of Zakir Hussain, a Sri Lankan national suspected of having links with Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI.
Hussain was arrested last Tuesday from Triplicane based on a tip-off from foreign intelligence agencies.
His arrest, so close to the recent blasts in Central railway station, led to much speculation.
On Monday the police filed a petition seeking custody for nine days to interrogate him on his links with other suspected groups in the State.
When the petition came up for hearing before XIII metropolitan magistrate S Siva Subramanian, Hussain’s counsel Zainul Abideen objected to police custody being granted.
Abideen argued that Hussain was a textile merchant from Sri Lanka and was wrongly portrayed as having links with the ISI. - ENS
