The Met Department says the low pressure area still persists to the west of Sri Lanka and that due to the active cloudiness associated with the system, showers or thundershowers will occur in the deep and shallow sea areas off the coast extending from Puttalam to Matara via Colombo and Galle.
Generally, Winds will be Southwesterly or variable and the speed will be 20-40 kmph. But sudden increase of wind speed (70-80 kmph) is possible over the above sea areas and there is a high possibility of sudden roughness, it said.
The Department of Meteorology further said that showers or thundershowers can be expected at several places over the other sea areas around the island during the afternoon and night too.
