The Tamil Nadu police has sought Interpol assistance to begin the extradition process of Mohamed Husnie, a Sri Lankan national arrested in Malaysia, for planning to attack foreign missions in Chennai and Bengaluru.
He is believed to be an associate of another Lankan, a suspected ISI spy, Sakir Hussian, arrested in Chennai for similar charges a month ago.
According to sources, the police approached the Interpol through the CBI, the nodal agency, for issuing a red corner notice against the suspect, after obtaining an arrest warrant from a court in the city.
“If everything goes well, the entire process will take only two to four weeks. We will be able to get him within a month,” sources in India said.
Mohammad Husnie, arrested by Malaysian police near Kuala Lumpur two weeks ago, is wanted by the Q branch of the Tamil Nadu police for ascertaining his links with Sakir Hussain.
Both were reportedly working for Pakistan’s ISI and were part of the ISI plot for carrying out strikes on the US Consulate in Chennai and Israeli Consulate in Bengaluru. - The Asian Age
