People living in the low-lying areas on both sides of the Kuda Ganga have been advised to remain vigilant due to 3 sluice gates being opened in the Kukule River, as a result of rising water level.

Kalutara District Secretary U.D.C. Jayalal stated that 42 houses have been completely destroyed due to heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding in the district while another 101 homes have been partially damaged.

The prevailing inclement weather condition in the district has also displaced 12,651 persons, he said.

The District Secretary further said that Palinda Nuwara, Bulathsinhala, Walallawita and Millaniya Divisional Secretary Areas have been surrounded by water and therefore the people in those areas are being provided with dry rations and other supplies.

Meanwhile around 30 homes are underwater due to the overflowing of the Maskeliya Oya after continues rainfall.

Twenty houses in Gawarawila Colony in Samimale and 10 houses in Neluwa Estate are reportedly underwater.

Ada Derana reporter said that the displaced persons have been provided temporary shelter at estate Kovils and are being provided food and supplies.

Several roads in the central mountain region have been affected by mist due to adverse weather conditions and resulting in low visibility.

Police urged motorist traveling along those roads to exercise caution.
