The proposal to remove Minister Wimal Weerawansa from the post of Chairman of the Kaduwela Coordinating Committee, which was adopted unanimously yesterday, is to be submitted to President Mahinda Rajapaksa by the municipal commissioner on Monday.

The displeasure of the people of Kaduwela towards Minister Weerawansa evident by the vote held yesterday, the Mayor of Kaduwela, G.H. Buddhadasa told Ada Derana.

He stated that 17 out of the 20 UPFA members in the Kaduwela Municipal Council unanimously decided that the Minister of Construction and Engineering Services should be removed from the chairmanship of the Coordinating Committee of Kaduwela.

The total 28 seats in the Kaduwela Municipal Council are divided between 20 UPFA members, 7 UNP councilors and the sole representative of Wimal’s National Freedom Front (NFF), Deputy Mayor Buddhika Jayawilal.

Buddhadasa said that 17 councilors were for the proposal brought forth by a UPFA member while the other 3 members representing the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) were absent due to falling ill.

He stated that although the UNP councilors were not present at the council sitting, Deputy Mayor Buddhika Jayawilal, who was elected to the Kaduwela Municipal Council from the NFF, did not at least vote against the proposal on behalf of his leader.

This clearly shows that Minister Wimal Weerawansa is not suitable to chair the Coordinating Committee of Kaduwela and therefore President Mahinda Rajapaksa or Minister Basil Rajapaksa must decide whether or not he should be removed.

The Mayor of the Kaduwela Municipal Council further said that what he and the rest of UPFA councilors are seeking through this proposal is that Minister Weerawansa be removed, as he is abusing the post by taking arbitrary decisions.

Buddhadasa said that they propose the appointment of Minister Susil Premajayantha to the position instead.
